Phobias and fear
can be helped with Hypnotherapy,
Counselling, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, NLP and
Psychotherapy
Hypnotherapy, Counselling, psychotherapy and NLP are
all effective in
combination in treating phobia and fear cases.
What are Phobias?
Phobias are fears of animals, places, activities,
things, anything really.
The thing they have in common is they are apparently illogical or
irrational.
People often assume therefore that they are being "daft" because of
their
phobia. This is not true. All phobias have a logical element, hidden
somewhere
in the subconscious. All phobias respond well to the same
systematic
combination of assistance.
How does the treatment
work?
This
can Work in a number of ways:
- Hypnotherapy
can be used in a Clinical Hypnosis model to reduce fear responses
- Psychotherapy
and or Hypnotherapy can tackle psychosomatic reasons for being afraid
- Hypnotherapy
visualisation and reprogramming can assist directly by changing
the way you feel about the place / thing / other phobia.
- Motivational
counselling can tip the psychological balance, that compared benefits
and costs of the fear. Many of these are often subconscious. Once
addressed the person feels they have the strength to
overcome any residual fear.
- People
under stress suffer more likelihood of fear response, therefore
relaxation and stress management are of great assistance.
- NLP
can be used to control responses to situations.

What is the usual result?
The combination of all of these means that you can:
- Learn to cope with fear better, feel the fear but
do it anyway.
- Learn to feel different and positive emotions
instead of fear. And these will gradually over-write the fear feelings.
- Become generally calmer and stronger.
- Address the reasons why you were afraid deep down
anyway.
Rapid cures and EFT
Enquiries are encouraged to use common sense. If your
phobia is mild, then it may respond favourably to NLP methods like the
"Rapid phobia cure" method or EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). A
number of TV documentaries recently have shown what most serious
professional therapists already knew; that these rapid change methods
do not have lasting results in serious phobia cases. Usually they
either fail out right, or they have a brief effect, that wears off,
leaving the client dissallusioned and disempowered! EFT is a very
contraversial therapy that is not recommended by our practice on the
basis that it a hackneyed combination of other therapies in a very
dubious package! If you have a phobia with a strong fear response, or
the phobia has existed for some time, then there will be deeper
subconcious patterns at work, and these need professional assistance to
change, and are unlikely to response to "tapping yourself" (EFT) or a
simple visualisation process (Rapid phobia cure). Of course
if you want to try EFT, then by all means find a practitioner who will
enjoy being paid to teach you how to tap yourself in various places,
make funny noises and swivel your eyes and head around. Once you have
tried that, if it works, then you probably could have solved the
problem yourself with a self help book, if it doesn't then do not blame
yourself and put it down to experience!
Getting at the underlying
cause
Please note, most people have some deeper reasons for
fear and phobia. Although phobias are by definition apparently
irrational, there is virtually always a deeper meaning in the
subconscious. To prevent a repeat of the fear, or a new symptom like
it, it is essential to deal with that deeper cause. Therapists who just
give symptomatic relief like to believe that by disrupting the phobia
they can cure it. Unfortunately this is not usually valid and is the
equivalent of giving pain killers to a patient without addressing the
cause of the pain. We take care to make you feel better, AND deal with
the holistic reasons why.
Paul Morgan-Ayres is the main therapist dealing with
phobias and is both highly experienced in dealing with a wide range of
phobias, and well qualified in all the techniques used. He is also
a course author for an ASET accredited college, and has
written ASET accredited courses in CBT, Stress Management, Anger
Management, Life Coaching and Holistic Healing.
