Hypnosis for Nail biting!

Nail biting for most people seems to be a minor and almost trivial thing. But for some people it is a major problem.

When biting nails becomes so compulsive that you really feel you have no control over it, then you are gripped by an obsession, not just a minor habit.

With some sufferers the nail gets bitten right down to the cuticle, often so that the nail becomes deformed, discoloured and in some cases infected or falls out.

Very often the sufferer will also resort to biting the skin around the nails, resulting in further damage.

What is often underestimated is the disruprion caused to the self-esteem. In both male and female sufferers the hands become a part of the body the sufferer hates to display or have seen. this undermines the person's sense of wellbeing and self esteem. This then further causes stress and aggravates the compulsion.

All compulsive habits, nail biting included have their root in stress, anxiety or some other emotional issue. By negatively effecting the self-esteem and causing additional stress, the visual damage done to the person's image amplifies the original cause. Thus a feedback loop is created.

Treatment is effective with hypnotherapy to change behaviour directly, and also to alter the person's self image and self-esteem in order to take away the desire to bite. Where the client develops a real pride and love for their nails through hypnosis, the effects can be very fast indeed.

Occasionally psychotherapy and cause addressing hypnotherapy can be needed where the nail biting is a symptom of a far deeper issue. On the whole however the client responds well to overall anxiety management and direct intervention to change biting behaviour.

As in all topics addressed, underlying causes are targeted in order to prevent only temporary relief from occurring. The objective is to address the current issues, and leave all parties capable of better resolving future issues without outside support where possible.

Professor Morgan-Ayres combines a number of methods of therapy depending on the case. Counselling and Psychotherapy provide a base with other methods (listed on the main therapy page) such as hypnotherapy, NLP, lifestyle training, life coaching and faith counselling providing additional modalities and methods that can be employed. Underlying issues are addressed and quick fixes are not offered. Remedial short term interventions are offered with the option of following on with comprehensive therapy afterwards if required.
