Accredited Professional Life Coaching Training.

It is now possible to gain a professional diploma in Life Coaching, with a joint ASET level  4 award.

This means that you can train in Life Coaching to a recognised standard of level 4 according to nationally recognised standards.

The recommended provider is Stonebridge Associated Colleges, a specialised distance learning provider based here in the UK.

You will be expected not only to meet the vigorous standards of academic work, but also to carry out case studies and practical work that will be assessed as part of the course.

Stonebridge are dedicated to incorporating the necessary information into their courses to enable their graduates to meet the NOS National Occupational Standards for therapy in the UK. This course has been written incorporating the information the successful graduate will need in order to adhere to apropriate NOS.

Please note that the NOS Advice and Guidance and NOS Life Coaching in the Workplace are not applicable to this course since this course is designed to enable graduates to provide private life coaching, not workplace coaching. Therefore the NOS Counselling has been used as a guide instead. With minimal personal effort and study the graduate could easily make the adjustment to the Life coaching in the workplace NOS should they need to.

Awards also exist to levels three and four in Psychotherapy, with related Level three and four awards in counselling and hypnotherapy available.

Who are ASET?

The ASET accreditation information is listed (offsite) at
http://www.aset.ac.uk/intro_to_aset.php#credentials and a short excerpt is printed below with the permission of ASET:

"ASET Qualifications are approved by QCA (England), ACCAC (Wales) and CCEA (Northern Ireland) and by the Secretary of State for Learning and Skills and are part of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

ASET also provides National Awards (designed by ASET) and accredits Awards (designed by Centres)."

(NB- ASET are now also SQA approved)

Certainly all therapy training in the UK is accredited?

No, not at all. Anyone can set up a "training college" and issue "diplomas". You should look for properly accredited colleges and awards.

What should I look for?

Some awards are directly accredited, such as NVQ's, SNVQ's, Degrees and National Units. Other awards come from accredited organisations such as VCTC, ASET, ABC Consortium and University Certificates.

Stonebridge are an ASET accredited college, and as such the ASET awards that they provide fall into this second accredited category.

Appropriate levels of Award

An appropriate level of accreditation would be Level 3 for competence, or level 4 or 5 for a higher professional level.

Some providers only have accreditation for "introductory level courses". You are advised to look for accredited courses at levels 3 and up.

Paul has also written a professional advanced training course in CBT, another in Anger management, and one in stress managment, which are currently awaiting accreditation. Paul's Advanced Life Coaching course is already accredited as an ASET level 4 award.

Is Distance Learning suitable for learning to be a therapist?

More and more professionals are turning to distance learning as a way of continuing their development in today's busy and hectic lifestyle.

Properly accredited distance learning, such as an ASET award, or an Open University award, is of a recognised and appropriate quality.

Many Stonebridge graduates are already in practice, and therefore have a wealth of practical experience, using the ASET awards as accredited professional continuing development.

Students who have not gained any relevant practical "hands on" experience, are provided with support and advice, in order to enable them to seek out practical study groups and real life practice groups.  Practical training workshops are also being set up, providing training from accredited trainers.

What is your relationship with Stonebridge?

We initially contacted Stonebridge in order to use them for Continuous Professional Development training. Unlike many other providers we noticed a very high degree of professionalism, dedication to quality and of course ASET accreditation.

We went to the trouble of checking out their accreditation claims, and contacting ASET directly, who were happy to confirm that Stonebridge is a duly accredited centre.

As "students", we found the service to be first class, and the staff to be particularly helpful.

Since then Paul Morgan-Ayres has been contracted to write courses for Stonebridge, and to assist them in NOS National Occupational Standard incorporation.

The Level 4 Life Coaching course was written by Paul Morgan-Ayres for Stonebridge, and Paul will shortly be offering training workshops in addition for interested students.

The Course is also accredited for membership of the Society for Holistic Therapists and Coaches.

How do we enroll with Stonebridge?
