Emotional Detoxification

What is Emotional Detoxification?
Otherwise known as Emotional Detox, Trauma runs, Dianetics.

We all go through life learning. In the early years we primarily learn from parents, guardians and siblings. Later we learn more from peers. Later still we learn from peers and mentors. And so the process runs, from birth to old age.

At all stages along the way, each layer of learning is based on the proceeding one. Where one stage is poisoned by toxic effects, the next is built on unsteady ground. This makes learning difficult and sometimes virtually impossible. Alternatively our learning is deflected in artificial directions, away from our natural course and needs.

What toxic effects?

Abuse, over dominant or over submissive partners, bullies, trauma, unresolved questions...... the list is almost endless and is totally personal. The events become a problem when they are not resolved and learn from close to the time. Thus one person may cope well with a situation because they have truly dealt and learnt from it (resolved it), but another person who has not resolved it will be poisoned by that same event. Since different people fail to resolve different things, the process is very individual.

What long term effects are there?

Certainly there are a wide range of effects from impaired mental wellbeing, physical wellbeing, low confidence, impaired self-esteem and the like, to more subtle effects. The more subtle effects in some ways are worse. They include mid-life crisis type scenarios where someone realises that the direction there life has taken them in is not right and they are therefore unhappy.

What can be done about it?

By going over past events and removing the toxic and negative emotional content, much of the negative power those events had over you is removed. A bit like pulling out or running flat the batteries. Hence the expression "running flat a trauma". Then additional work can be undertaken to make sense of the event in the light of a calmer understanding and attitude. In the optimum outcome the client looses any negative feelings, and instead develops an understanding of how those events had a positive long term effect in some aspect of their lives. This is possible because the therapy part of the process gets the client's life back on track, but with the additional knowledge of the problems the client faced before. Therefore the client can in effect be provided with a new start, AND the knowledge and wisdom that comes from experience.

How many toxins could I have?

This is a tough question, and frankly can not be guessed at. Part of the problem is that if the initial problems occurred at an early age, these events tend to compound themselves, building and adding to each other, one mistake leading to another. I such cases it can take a while to resolve the case, and the client should remember that decades of error and pain con not logically be resolved in just a couple of weeks! In other cases however, where the client has limited toxic effect, or has nipped the process in the bud, the case takes much less time to resolve. Sometimes too there can be a cascade effect, where just as the negative toxins built layer upon layer, so the rotten layers of the experience come crashing down pretty quickly once the key one is addressed.

Is it unpleasant?

It would be wrong to say that any therapy process is a barrel of laughs (although laughter is a useful therapy tool). However the one definite thing to consider is that any discomfort experienced through releasing negative emotions and experiences is greatly outweighed by the enormous benefits and relief that usually comes from attaining understanding, calm and resolution to the issues.

What methods are used?

Since the experiences of each client are different, and toxins different, thus the techniques used are different. A wide range of therapy techniques are used, including talk therapies (e.g. counselling, life coaching, psychotherapy), energy therapies (e.g. crystal healing, reiki) and doing therapies (e.g. life coaching and personal development methods.
