Depression therapy in Glasgow

What is Depression Therapy?

Depression is a medical condition, therefore counselling and complementary health techniques are offered as a complement to medical advice and treatment from your medical doctor. It is not a substitute and you should always seek medical advice for any medical condition.

Counselling, psychotherapy and other techniques such as hypnotherapy, NLP and life coaching are historically very helpful in dealing with depression and other emotional issues.

So called "talking therapies" such as counselling and psychotherapy help you to gain knowledge over your issues, usually in ways and from angles you never considered or saw before. This empowers you in new ways and leads to control and more contentment. They also address underlying causes such as port traumatic stress or abuse issues.

Behavioural change techniques such as hypnotherapy or NLP change the way you react or feel in different circumstances. This therefore addresses the triggers and symptoms while the "talking therapies" address the deeper issues. These and other behavioural change techniques are often referred to as "short term intervention techniques".

Practical training and or coaching type support such as "Life coaching" can provide useful and meaningful ideas, tactics and projects to make your lifestyle and environment more supportive and positive, hence changing the whole dynamic of your life. Without changing the environment around you it is hard to make changes last.

Relaxation techniques are useful in treating depression symptoms and have been used by psychologists and therapists for many years. The state known loosely as relaxation can no co-exist with the state known as depression since they are so different. Therefore by entering the relaxed state, the client learns a new way of "feeling" and also takes a break from the negative feelings. Over time with practice the client spends more time automatically closer to the relaxed state and therefore experiences less "depression".  Likewise other states can be explored such as excitement and focused concentration.  Therapies such as hypnosis, meditation, reiki, crystal healing etc all use a relaxed state or "trance" and enables the above.

Self-help techniques support the processes already mentioned. These vary from colour therapy, crystal healing and meditation to engaging in sports and changing your diet. These all support your progress and enable positive change.
