Ayurveda

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of medicine -a combination of science and philosophy which details the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual components necessary for holistic health.

The fundamental belief of Ayurveda is that everything within the universe, including ourselves, is composed of vibrating energy. We should live in a way that encourages a balance of energies. This course covers the multiple components of detoxification, diet, exercise, herbs and techniques which work together to contribute to a balanced way of life

Fundamental parts of Ayurveda:

Lifestyle & exercise advice for vitality & health

A truly holistic approach requires consideration of lifestyle and positive exercise. The body is a holistic creation that needs a full range of assistance and healing.

The 3 vital energies

Traditional ayurveda works with naturally occuring energies.

Detoxification

The body builds up a range of toxins, mental and physical. Detoxification is an essential part of recovery and well being.

The 5 elements

Traditional philosophy incorporates five elements, which relate to lifestyle and healing.

Diseases - signs & symptoms

Ayurveda treats the body holistically and therefore sees many conventional illness or complaints as signs or symptoms of a more holistic and fundamental imbalance.

Samana (herbal remedies)

A crucial part of healing with Ayurveda is the use of traditional herbal remedies. Herbalism is useful for returning the body to balance, as well as treating individual symptoms. Ayurveda is a little different to medical herbalism, in that the choice of herbs is often made according to rather different philosophies. Because the belief system is very holistic, different combinations of herbs may be used.

Treatments & precautionary measures

A full range of physical, dietary, herbal, exercise, lifestyle and other measures are combined to treat the holistic nature of the complaint.

Diet, foods and their effects

It is not enough to take exercise and take herbs! What we eat makes a huge impact on our well being. Without careful attention to diet, other aspects of treatment are easily undone.

Natural therapies

The principle of Ayurveda means that a range of other therapies including meditation, relaxation, Reiki healing, crystal healing and counselling all work well as part of, or alongside traditional Ayurveda.
