No claim is made to cure any
medical condition. Complementary health assistance must be with
medical doctor's permission and following the client consulting a
medical doctor.
Complementary Health Therapy
and
Education
What is
Complementary Health Therapy?
Complementary
Health Therapy is the use of
techniques and therapies in addition to traditional medical treatments.
Crucially these therapies do not seek to replace medical treatment or
medical
doctors. Indeed complementary health therapists actively encourage
their clients
to continue seeking support and advice from their medical doctor.
What is Complementary Health Education?
Complementary
Health Education is subtly
different
in that it is the process of providing information and self-help to
clients.
Therefore rather than providing massage to a client (as an example),
the trainer
would teach the client self-massage techniques. This might of course
involve
demonstration. Even if the demonstration is essentially massage itself,
the goal
and reason for it is to empower the client to do it themselves.
What
Qualifications Apply in Complementary Health
Education?
The
important factor in qualification
regarding Complementary Health Education is the area of training or
coaching.
The Trainer or Coach must have some basic grounding in complementary
health, as
one would expect from any therapist. More important however is the
qualification
in provision of training. The NVQ award system provides a structure
here, as do
various teaching awards in mainstream education. One would not expect
the
trainer to necessarily be qualified in every single therapy
demonstrated. They
must have proved however that they are professionally competent in
taking
therapy information, disseminating it and training the client in it.
This is
best done through vocational qualification where the actual process is
assessed.
Therefore with an NVQ in Training & Development, or Advice
& Guidance
with the coaching modules, you can be sure that the trainer has been
assessed to
national standards in actually doing it! Paul S Morgan-Ayres has also
written a professional training course in Holistic Therapy, expected to
gain external accreditation in the next few months.
