Also available in areas throughout the rest of the UK. In Glasgow available in comfortable City Centre Offices.

Conventional regular sessions also available in most national locations.

What are Breakthrough Therapy Sessions?

Breakthrough sessions are intensive and long sessions taking up most of a day. Usually you can expect to spend at least 5 hours working with a therapist, sometimes longer. Obviously you have breaks for meals and so forth.

What are breakthrough sessions used for?

Breakthrough therapy sessions enable rapid progress. By working in depth for a number of hours in a day, you are having the equivalent of 5 or 6 normal therapy sessions. With conventional therapy sessions the first 5-10 mins is often spent updating the therapist and "breaking the ice", which is also not needed with breakthrough sessions.

Another benefit of breakthrough sessions is that in many cases the client can travel longer distances to meet, since the journey is a one-off trip rather than a regular commuting distance.

Of course the nature of the therapy means that you will be paying a larger "one off" fee, although this can be paid by credit / debit card via "Paypal".

So is this "Quick Fix" therapy?

This is not "quick fix" therapy in the usual sense. Normally when therapists refer to "quick fixes", they are referring to brief symptomatic change which often does not work. "Quick fixes" where a therapist claims to solve all your problems in one session are frankly too good to be true! Breakthrough sessions are different because the time is taken to work on a much deeper and more appropriate level. Rather than being a "quick fix", it is instead cramming the equivalent of a number of sessions into an intensive day of work.

Rapid change and brief intervention

In a sense this is the ultimate in brief intervention therapy. Usually when psychotherapists or counsellors refer to brief interventions, they mean that the client can only receive about 6 sessions, each one perhaps 30 mins long. This is also often called crisis counselling. The objective is to disrupt the problems the client has by making substantial changes in their lives and behaviours, in the hope that this will achieve an end result without addressing underlying causes. Sometimes this works, but often without addressing underlying patterns, beliefs and issues these changes do not last. In contrast breakthrough sessions go deeper and do look through underlying causes. This is possible because the overall time dedicated to the change is greater.

What therapies are used in Breakthrough sessions?

A combined and flexible approach is most effective. Thus the therapist can use a range of tools and techniques to assist the client, making the most efficient use of the time available.

Therapies and methods that lend themselves well to Breakthrough sessions include:

Hypnotherapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Psychoanalysis
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
Life Coaching
Transactional Analysis

What happens afterwards?

You are provided with exercises and "homework" to do after the end of your day. This enables further reflection and personal development. These exercises may include:

Self Hypnosis
Hypnotherapy Tape recording
The award winning "Stress Pack" training package
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Exercises
Affirmation exercises
Relaxation exercises
Visualisation Exercises

Will I only need one breakthrough session?

Some people do benefit from a follow up breakthrough session. This is because all the self discovery and self development achieved during the day takes time to settle. Then as changes become incorporated into the person's lives, new issues or questions can arise. Therefore sometimes a follow up breakthrough session one to two months later can be useful in some cases. In other cases people are happy to carry on with their exercises and do not need further help.

What conditions are commonly treated with Breakthrough Therapy Sessions

Breakthrough sessions are effective in a very wide range of issues. Some common issues however are:

  • Anger Management
  • Depression Management
  • Anxiety Management
  • Stress Management
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
  • Pain Management
  • Eating Disorders
  • Morbid Thoughts
  • Phobias and Fears
  • Social Interaction Problems and Phobias
  • Addictions
  • Being Appropriately Assertive
  • Confidence and Self Image
  • Being more Positive and not a negative Pessimist

Please note this is not an exhaustive list.

Is this the same as Life Coaching?

Life coaching is just one of the methods used in breakthrough days. Other methods often reach far deeper and look for underlying issues and causes.

Qualifications

Any therapist offering breakthrough sessions should be qualified in all the different therapies and methods incorporated into the work.

In addition the therapist should abide by any NOS National Occupational Standards for the therapies used and for therapeutical practice.

Always ensure that any therapist you consult is qualified in all the methods used. Avoid therapists trained in a blanket and poorly defined method like "coaching" who dabble in other techniques. If a therapist uses hypnotherapy for example, they should be a qualified hypnotherapist and should abide by the National Occupational Standards for hypnotherapy.

Paul Morgan-Ayres is comprehensively qualified in all therapies used in breakthrough sessions, and additionally has access to Denise's expertise in areas such as Nutrition and Herbalism should advice in those areas be needed. Paul and Denise both abide by the appropriate National Occupational Standards.
