Can you stop blushing with hypnosis?

There are a number of factors in treating blushing as a problem with hypnosis:

  • Blushing can be a symptom of a medical complaint, always seek medical advice and a check up just to be safe.
  • Blushing is often a natural response which it would be negative to remove
  • Inappropriate blushing can be caused by psychological issues
  • Inappropriate blushing can be common because it has become habit or conditioned response
  • Hypnosis and psychotherapy can assist blushing

How do I know if my blushing is inappropriate?

At certain times it is natural to blush. For example:

  • On entering an atmosphere (e.g. a room) with a major air temperature change
  • When being paid a compliment
  • When feeling great pleasure
  • With certain type of relaxation

When is it probably inappropriate
to blush?

There is not a set list of inappropriate times. More likely it is a personal response or situation that triggers blushing at a time that is unhelpful for you. Examples might be:

  • When a certain person is present, and you do not wish that person to notice your attraction to, irritation by or knowledge of them. Blushing therefore sends the "wrong signal"
  • When blushing indicates a weakness or does not make you look competent. For example when public speaking.
  • When blushing has become a habit in certain circumstances (e.g. visiting local shop) when there is not logical reason to blush.
  • When blushing is associated with purely physical reasons, such as body temperature change with PMT.
  • When a gentle appropriate blush gets far stronger because you are worried about it.
  • When worrying about whether you might blush triggers a blush

How can Hypnotherapy / Clinic Hypnosis and Psychotherapy help blushing?

Hypnosis and psychotherapy can help in a number of ways:

  • Deal with the habitual blushing by changing the pattern of blushing.
  • Reconditioning the client not to blush
  • Looking at underlying causes that might be causing a "blush" response
  • Work on controlling the blood flow with clinical hypnosis and either reducing or transferring it in a "medical" model.
(this term does not infer medical treatment or diagnosis)
  • Change the self-image problems that are frequently connected to a blush response, for example poor self-image, feeling that everyone is negative towards you, feeling the centre of attention etc.
  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Training / therapy) methods can help you to monitor, progress and alter your behaviours and responses.
  • No claim is made to cure any medical condition. Complementary health assistance must be with medical doctor's permission and following the client consulting a medical doctor.
What is the prognosis of success?

Generally good. As in all cases you can never guarantee success because that would be misleading. In most cases blushing can be greatly reduced, and in those cases (often appropriate blush cases) where blushing continues, the client is often unaware or comfortable with the blush. Frequently blushing is connected to an event that got the client worried about blushing and set up a mild neurosis. Then the fear of blushing becomes the trigger itself. Also common is a trauma being retriggered by a common circumstance such as a place, person, smell etc. The memory of the trauma is retriggered and the blush occurs. In cases such as this, assistance as regards the original trauma often brings success.

As a self-help method - a hypnotherapy tape, CD or MP3 can be very effective and utilise many of the methods mentioned above. (tapes) (indeed to date this is the most popular recording ordered).
