Did you know that most training courses in therapy in the UK are
completely independent and not acredited to national standards? We are
different!
Our associates at Stonebridge Associated Colleges now offer our CBT
training course. This is an ASET level 5 accredited course via distance
learning. There are also modules of practical training available for
those who need them.
CBT is a widely used form of therapy and is referred to as Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy or Cognitive Behavioural Training. It also contains
a variety of sub-therapies including Stress Innoculation Therapy.
Other forms of CBT are life coaching, NLP and teaching self help
methods life self hypnosis.
The ASET level 5 accredited course provides a full training package
covering all the aspects of CBT you need for professional practice. You
can then practice any skills that you feel you need "hands on" training
in by choosing from a range of training workshops.
National Occupational Standards
The NOS National Occupational
Standards are the
standards that apply to practice of therapy by therapists in the UK. A
good training course will attempt to prepare the graduate for adherence
to these standards. The ASET level 5 award in Cognitive Behavioural
Therapy is written so as to enable the student to understand and meet
the NOS Counselling (1995), and be able to understand and adhere to
subsequent NOS updates.

What
is accredited Vocational Learning?
We strongly recommend completing an accredited course
that is either itself recognised (National Qualification
Matrix)
through QCA (Qualification Curriculum Authority) or SQC (Scottish
Qualification Authority), or is awarded by an QCA / SQA approved
awarding body.
Some awards, such as NVQ awards are directly recognised. Others are
accredited by awarding bodies who are themselves accredited as awarding
bodies by QCA / SQA. The first type tend to be general awards, the
second type tend to be more specific awards. Either route of
accreditation means that the award is accredited to nationally
recognised standards, as opposed to the variety of unregulated awards
available in the independent unaccredited sector.
One of the leading accredited awarding bodies is ASET.
We
work with Stonebridge Associated Colleges (SAC), an ASET accredited
centre to provide accredited awards in the therapy industry.
With Stonebridge you can complete your studies via distance learning,
and make use of practical training modules if you wish via a sister
organisation ( www.societytherapistscoaches.co.uk
) .
With Stonebridge you can complete ASET accredited awards at levels 3, 4
or 5. This enables you to complete a fully accredited course to real
national standards at an appropriate level. You can then choose the
practical modules of training you need to ensure competence. Modules
are provided according to need, since practicing therapists
often
do not need any practical training for accreditation, wheras a
new
graduate may feel the need for extensive more practical work. Thus a
flexible approach is offered with each module carrying a certificate of
completion to add to the student's portfolio. There is a high emphasis
on knowledge of and adherence to the NOS National Occupational
Standards for therapies.
In addition Stonebridge provides sound advice
regarding practical practice groups and "hands on" practicing of skills.
In other words it is fine to gain knowledge and accreditation via
distance learning, but you are advised to gain some hands on practice
locally too, partly to learn application, and partly to gain confidence
in your skills and knowledge.
It is usually far cheaper, and far better value all
round to complete your training via properly accredited distance
learning, and then practice these skills in local study groups (often
free or contribution based) or with short training modules. Training
traditionally entirely in the classroom is by far the most expensive
option, and often is less well accredited.
Stonebridge are also engaged in adapting and modifying
courses on an ongoing basis to ensure that as they develop, NOS
National Occupational Standards are incorporated into training
courses.
